So, this is going to be another one of my negative MAC reviews. I love MAC but sometimes their products fail to impress. This is only my second negative MAC review though (the other one was on the MAC 190 Brush). Most of the time I am raving about their products because they’re just so darn awesome! We all know MAC is pricey and it sucks to buy a MAC product and later on regret it.
The MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation is one that’s been sitting in my drawer for the longest time. I got it about a year ago and well.. I absolutely hate it! Why did I buy it then? Well I was pretty much a makeup virgin back then. I had now idea how to do anything! I had heard rave review of MAC foundations and thought if I bought one it would change my life (lol!). Little did I know that MAC sells numerous foundations according to your skin type and needs. I did not need the full coverage studio fix fluid! My skin was and is pretty clear. It’s a concealer that I should have invested in back then.
So when I got this foundation I marched up to the sales assistant and straight away told him to give me the studio fix fluid. I read some reviews on it and all were positive so I’d thought I would go for it. Without any research or without even telling the S.A. what I want from a foundation and what my skin type is I bought it.
The absolute worst part is that he gave me something like three shades darker! It’s an NC 42 and back then I had no idea how to match shades so like a dummy I bought it and was thrilled. Quite funny now that I think about it.
I am still unsure of what my shade in MAC foundations is (because I never bought one again). I believe i’m an NC 37 (heck maybe even NC 35). There’s a huge difference between NC 42 and 37!
See how dark it is for me? (Oh and ignore the little bumps on my skin. I get these in the winters when i’m cold)
Why I dislike the MAC Studio Fix Fluid:
~ It smells HORRIBLE! Ugh! No kidding it smells really really bad. I can describe the smell as medicines and chemicals stuffed in a bottle. I asked a few of my friends as well and they confirmed that it smells disgusting.
~ It’s very unnatural looking. It’s medium to full coverage and gives my skin a fake plastic look. I’m all for the natural makeup look and prefer my bare minerals powder foundation for everyday use (or the laura mercier silk creme foundation for events).
~ It’s also really thick and hard to blend.
~ It doesn’t come with a pump! It’s just a glass bottle with a cap so you have to spill it out to use it.
Amount: 30 ml
How many times have I used it?: Once. After months of buying it I tried it and immediately washed it away. I kept it for so long because I wanted to do a blog post on it. Now that that’s done it will now be going back to MAC tomorrow.
Phew! I am not a fan of doing negative reviews but I want Glam Diaries to be a place where girls come for honest reviews.
After all the negativity let’s end on a positive note. Look at Mr. MAC snowman! Haha!
Are you all excited as I am for Christmas?! I have so many video ideas so stay tuned! 🙂
